Malibu Sunset is a semi-custom project built around one of our most popular finishes — the signature “sunset” fade.

After years of using this finish on quilted maple tops, I decided to try it on a highly figured curly maple top — and man, it did not disappoint.

The transitions are silky smooth, and the colors are soft and dreamy — just like a Pacific sunset over Malibu Beach.

I took it a step further with matching stained block markers on a beautifully roasted curly maple fingerboard, bringing the whole look together.

Topping it off is the seven-string reversed ViK modern-split headstock, with a stained color-shift section that catches the light and jumps out in just the right way.

A beach dream turned into a sonic weapon.
