Digital or Analog: The Great Guitar Fork in the Road

It’s becoming one of the most fundamental questions a guitar player has to ask — especially when considering a boutique instrument or any other tone-related gear that might come with a five-figure price tag and a 2-year waitlist.
Here’s the question:
Am I choosing the digital or the analog path for my musical journey? In the past, this wasn’t such a big deal. Most digital guitar-related products were pretty lame, and no serious musician would consider using them to produce a professional result. But that’s changed. Digital tools have evolved to a point where they’re starting to lead — not just in convenience, but also in actual sound quality.
You either pick the digital path — and from there, your journey becomes clean, streamlined, and free from worrying about “silly” guitar stuff like tonewoods, scale lengths, or pickups — or you don’t. It makes no real difference what guitar you plug into your modeler. You’ll get good tones whether it’s a $20K collectible or complete trash.
BUT.
If you’re one of those special kinds of people who like to make life harder than it needs to be — congrats. You’re about to set off on the tone-chasing journey of a lifetime. One full of demons and doubts, myths and facts, things you can hear and things you think you can hear because someone somewhere on a forum said there's a there there. This path will be incredibly challenging. It will be expensive. But also incredibly satisfying.
To put it in simpler terms:
This is like choosing between a gas-powered car and an electric one. If all you need is to get from point A to point B, it’s a no-brainer. But if you’ve got gasoline running in your veins and a V8 rumble makes your pulse spike… well, you already know where this is going. The journey is messier, louder, more unpredictable. Things break. Things leak. Gears grind. It’s everything you don’t need — yet somehow everything you want.
Are you here for the destination… or the journey?
